Some of my projects, even the ones that aren’t the most complicated, sometimes take years to finish. Sometimes it’s because of the emotional overload they bring with them.
I sketched this piece in March 2022 while I was in evacuation. Back then, I didn’t even consider sculpting it - I didn’t have any clay. And I didn’t have the inspiration either.
After moving to Canada, I decided to finally sculpt it. In 2023, the octopus appeared. But every time I came back to this piece, it triggered a complicated reaction in my mind. In 2024, I sculpted the sunflower. And only in 2026 did I finally dare to put everything together. This is the sculpture I’m glad I finally managed to finish. And at the same time, the one I wish had never existed. But the title came naturally and quickly: When Meaning Ends.
